Michelle Obama’s got ‘em. Madonna’s got ‘em. Fabulous ARMS that is. I know, I know, you’re thinking no one cares about arms Sara, it’s all about the butt. Well, I hear arms are making a comeback. Sure, having a nice badonkadonk is awesome, but you’re most likely not seeing that rear in pictures. You’re seeing your arms. When you go in for a job interview or out on that first date, what is more likely that you’ll show off, your six pack abs or your sculpted arms? The body part you are showing off the most in public is your arms. So move aside squats and say hello to arm exercises.
Now, I’m not a personal trainer, but I have been working on sculpting my arms for a good 5+ years. I take pride in being able to show off my muscles and how hard I’ve worked. Here are some tips that I have learned along the way.
5 Helpful Tips
Slow and steady wins the race – Toned arms aren’t built overnight, but a little bit every day can go a long way. Doing an hour of arm exercises daily would be overwhelming. So just commit to 10 minutes every day. I usually do 2 sets of 12 repetitions of each exercise.
Start off small – When I first started working out my arms, I used 3 pound free weights in each hand. Then I moved up to 5, then to 8, and now I’m using 10 pounds. Every person is different, so test out weights beforehand. You should feel a burn on the 8th count. Once you feel that your arms have gotten used to the weights, push yourself to go higher.
Make it fun – Doing arm exercises doesn’t have to be boring. Listening to music is a great way to spice it up. Or watching television while lifting weights can make those 10 minutes go by pretty quickly. The Real Housewives have not only helped me zone out after a long day, but they have also helped me tone up too 😉
Frugal fitness – You don’t have to have the bank account of Madonna to have her arms. It shouldn’t cost an ‘arm’ and a leg. When I decided to start lifting weights, I saw a personal trainer once to show me the correct exercises to do on my own at home. You can also watch free workout videos online or join a gym and use the weight machines there.
Switch it up – You always want to push yourself and your arms, so change things up. One day I might use free weights at home, and the next I’ll use the arm machines at my gym. The day after that I’ll do a workout video on YouTube, and the next day I’ll do cardio that works out my arms as well.
Soon with these helpful tips, you’ll be putting the ‘arm’ in arm candy.
