In honor of National Dog Day yesterday, I wanted to give a shout out to all the adorable dogs out there in the world. They are our fluffy friends that help us through life, asking nothing in return. Except for food…my dog loves food. Enjoying the company of your dog is actually a great therapeutic tool. You can turn to your dog for anything. Sometimes all you need is to see that slobbery smile at the end of your day to make everything better. So, I think it’s time we stopped and smelled the roses, or more like that lovely dirty smell of our best friend – our dog.
5 Reasons to Love Your Dog
Workout partner – As Cesar Milan would say, it’s very important to take your dog out on a walk every day. Your dog needs exercise, and so do you. When you’re taking your dog out on a walk or run, you’re killing two birds with one leash. Running with a dog can also keep you accountable to not slow down. If your dog runs after other dogs, look at it as he or she is increasing your running speed. They are the best workout partners because they keep you in check. So start sweating it out with that fur-ball by your side!
No judgement – There’s nothing better than having that nonjudgmental friend. Well, in this case, it’s your dog! You can literally do anything you want and your dog will always be your friend. No matter how many slices of pizza you eat in front of your paw-partner, he or she will still give you that wonderful smile. Sing as loud as you want or dance like a crazy person because your pet ain’t judging!
Happiness – There have been many scientific reports out there that show us that dogs make us happier – they reduce stress, help us distract when feelings are too intense, and they have a certain healing power only they can offer. They love you unconditionally and that brings joy into your world. Even more, you bring happiness into their lives. With every pet or every belly rub you offer, you see that furry smile and it makes you smile as well.
They protect you – Well, maybe not my dog because he’s too lovey-dovey, but MOST dogs will protect you. They are our front door watchers, our mailman barkers and the alarm system we always wanted. If you live by yourself, having a dog can bring you a lot of comfort. They also protect you in other ways as well. They can sense your emotions. When you’re sad, they know it and they help you through the hard times as well.
You never feel alone with them – There are moments in our lives where we can feel very alone. However, we can alleviate this loneliness through the company of our dog(s). Maybe you have the place to yourself for a night and don’t want to feel alone. Or maybe you’re going through a ‘ruff’ time and feel the pains of lonesomeness. Whatever the case is, you always have your dog to turn to and cuddle with.
