All the single ladies (and gentlemen)
Being single isn’t always easy in our society. You see your friends in relationships, getting married, etc., and you can’t help but think you’re missing out. There are countless movies, TV shows and books that portray being in a relationship as the end-all and be-all. I mean, we even have a national holiday that revolves around being in love. What’s a single person to do? We need to throw away the notion that ‘love is all we need’ and that being in a relationship is the most important thing. Being in a relationship with ourselves is what we need to be focusing on, before we can be in a relationship with another person. Don’t get me wrong, being in a partnership is awesome, but so is being single. So don’t rush to be paired up. Instead, start loving the positives that being single has to offer.
The 3 F’s of Being Single
Freedom – Being single means being free and independent. You don’t have to answer to anyone else – no ‘checking in’ text messages, no having to call someone, no nothing. If you’re out late at night, you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone. You’re free as a bird. When you’re in a relationship, the decisions you make can affect your partner as well. But when you’re single, you can be free to make any decision you want, without having to consider or consult another person.
Focus on yourself – This is the time to focus on you. Being single allows you to be selfish and do what makes you happy. Revel in it. Think about what you want out of life and what you’re passionate about. Take the time to #treatyoself. You can make changes in your life and choose to be the person you want to be.
Fun – Having ‘fun’ is one of the main things people love about being single. Make singlehood fun! Go out with your girlfriends on the weekends. Get the guys together for a round of poker. When you’re single, you have more time to do things with your friends. Take this opportunity and enjoy the ones around you. Plan weekend getaways, get slightly tipsy and make a fool of yourself, make out with a random stranger at a bar! Get out your wild, because when you’re in a relationship you’ll need to be a bit more mild.
