Get Your Girl Power On
Sometimes in life, we lose sight of ourselves and our own strength. We forget that inside all of us is our own Beyoncé. All too often, we doubt ourselves, put ourselves down and let people treat us poorly. Life can be rough at times and can test our confidence. We have been there before or are going through it right now. The girl that’s in a relationship where she knows she deserves better. The woman that works incredibly hard at her job, but never gets one ‘thank you’. The moment your heart is broken because you realize the person you love doesn’t love you the same way. Whatever the case, you feel broken, used and low. We go through ups and downs, and so does our confidence in ourselves.
I am tired of seeing these beautiful and powerful women around me say negative comments about themselves. Heck, I’m tired of hearing myself say these same things. So here’s to finding our inner bad b*tch once again. Here’s to feeling good about yourself for your strengths, and letting go of your weaknesses. Here’s to truly realizing ‘who run the world’ — GIRLS.
5 Ways To Feel Empowered
Focus on the good – Make a list of the qualities you love about yourself. Doesn’t matter what they are. Write them down and put it somewhere where you can look at it every morning. Remind yourself of why you are amazing. Remind yourself why you love who you are. Even if the list is small — it’s okay. Positivity breeds positivity. Take note of how often you say or think a negative thought about yourself. Try to counter that negative with a positive. Be mindful of how often you say unpleasant comments out loud. Awareness is the first step.
Someone to look up to – Whether it’s your mother, a celebrity, a politician, or an artist, find someone to look up to. Think of a woman who inspires you and reminds you of the woman you strive to be. Take note of her unique qualities and channel them.
Music – Listening to music can motivate you to find that inner strength that’s been hiding away. Put on that Destiny’s Child song and know that you’re a ‘Survivor’. Turn up that Nicki Minaj song and feel it. Let Taylor Swift tell you that you are ‘never ever getting back together’ with that jerk. There are so many incredible women in music that make me feel proud to be a woman. Embrace this.
Express yourself – One of my favorite aspects about women is the fact that we can truly express ourselves. Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had are with my girlfriends. We can be open and honest with all of our emotions. The good, the bad and the ugly. We feel safe to let ourselves feel with each other. So open yourself up with your girls and allow for this close relationship. There’s a time and place for surface level conversations. But to honor those deep feelings with another gal pal is so sacred and meaningful.
Environment – Take a look at your environment and the people you surround yourself with. Sometimes we need to do a serious check in with the friendships we keep. Do you have a girlfriend that puts other girls down? Is your ‘best friend’ talking behind other girl’s backs? If so, I’d say ‘to the left, to the left’ to them. On the other hand, often we don’t truly stop and think about all the tremendous women we surround ourselves with. If that’s the case, let your ladies know how much you appreciate and care for them. #girlpower
